Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta suffered a knee injury in the side’s 3-2 win over Valencia away from home on Saturday. There were reports that the player could be out for a long duration as the commentators were mentioning around 3-4 months lay off.
Updating on the injury, a statement on Barcelona’s official website read: The first team player Andres Iniesta has injured the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee following tests on his return to Barcelona after the team’s away victory at Valencia. The midfielder is expected to be out for some 6 to 8 weeks.
“Iniesta was injured early in the first half of Barça’s 3-2 win in Mestalla following a challenge from Valencia midfielder Enzo Pérez. The Barça captain left the field after 14 minutes and was replaced by Ivan Rakitic,” the report added.
With this news, it is now clear that Iniesta won’t be able to recover to play the ‘El Clasico’ fixture against rivals Real Madrid in the first week of December.
The player thus joins Barcelona’s long injury list that includes defender Gerard Pique, midfielders Arda Turan and Rafinha.
