2016 Summer Paralympics began with an opening ceremony on Thursday but there is not one channel telecasting the event in India.
This is really ridiculous that no media has bought the broadcasting rights for telecasting the Rio Paralympics 2016, not even the government-run Doordarshan.
It’s an irony that our honorable Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Damodardas Modi has wished the athletes participating in the games luck to win there in twitter, also spoken about the disability in his Mann Ki Baat but no Indian network including (national broadcasters) Doordarshan has come forward to show the feed, the crucial year of event will be missed by the country.
I even don’t understand that broadcasting right price for this are as much as same as from Beijing games, even though the Rio time zone is a benefit to broadcast here, which also doesn’t seem to affect the relay, why can’t national broadcaster broadcast it like Rio Olympics Games.
The opening ceremony is over yesterday, we might have missed it but at least we can see some of the matches of our athletes. This is the largest Indian contingent ever in Paralympics with a lot of hopes including the high jumpers. A total of 19 athletes will be competing in the event.
There was some drama before the opening ceremony with the blazers of Indian athletes were found without the white strip in the national flag that was resolved later.
Paralympic committee is broadcasting online for the nations where no media houses haven’t bought the rights. The below is the link to the YouTube channel which is providing LIVE telecast online! Enjoy!
